Speaking at SPC 2008

I am happy to announce that I will be presenting three topics at the SharePoint Conference 2008 in Seattle March 3-6.

Advanced Search Configuration and Management

Organizations intending to implement a search solution in SharePoint often approach this “technical problem” by asking “What do we need to index?”. While this approach may yield results they are usually less than optimal. The approach presented in this session begins with the user and drives to determine what the user needs and wants in their search experience. We will discuss:

  • Search Center design and configuration
  • Search Results XSLT to improve results rendering
  • Customizations to enhance the SharePoint search experience
  • BDC Integration to search structure data

This session will be of interest to Site Designers, Developers and Farm Administrators.

Social Networking and User Profiles for Business

Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 adds a significant social networking context to its existing collaboration and communication features and capabilities. By providing a framework for the establishment of user profiles and the ability to understand the organizational hierarchy between these profiles, Office SharePoint Server can easily connect information workers and organization members.

This session will explore the options available to the enterprise for:

  • Overview and definition of social networking
  • The importance of social networking in business and how it can be leveraged
  • How MOSS implements social networking
  • Technical overview of how to correctly implement MOSS as a social networking platform

Virus Scanning and Content Filtering for MOSS 2007 and WSS 3.0 Using Microsoft Forefront Security for SharePoint

I will be co presenting with Noelle Mendez-Villamil & Jonathan Wynn

Microsoft Forefront Security for SharePoint integrates multiple scan engines from industry-leading vendors and content controls to help businesses protect their Office SharePoint Server 2007 and Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 collaboration environments by eliminating documents containing malicious code, confidential information, and inappropriate content. This session covers how Forefront Security for SharePoint leverages the SharePoint 2007 API to scan infected documents, keywords for inappropriate language, and non-compliant file types. Attendees receive an in-depth drill down on the setting and configurations of the real-time and manual scan jobs. Catapult Systems will provide a partner perspective on the deployment and use of this product while Del Monte Foods will provide real life scenarios on how they deployed and manage this solution for their intranet and extranet deployments of SharePoint.

Merry Christmas!
